I would love to do the following for you, or someone you know.
How do you take a person with little to no presenting experience and turn them into a Keynote Speaker? How do you equip them with the skills to deliver an incredible presentation at a major industry event at the International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney)? And…do it all in 11 weeks?
Here’s how.
When Justin Whytcross from Absolute Approvals came to me in March, I first asked him to answer the question ‘Why’. Why was it important that he speaks about looking beyond minimum building code standards to truly serve the way people lived in aged care communities in their twilight years.
Once we had the answer to that, I showed him how to develop a killer keynote by:
(1). Opening with Impact and introducing the audience to the Sandwich Generation concept.
(2). Adding the story (with family images) and introducing Justin’s grandparents, Bob and Lorraine.
(3). Using the power of three to highlight the current themes Justin sees of high importance – Function. Community. Safety.
(4). Including a speaking technique called anaphora. This is where Justin weaves the line, “because we are trying to build communities, not facilities” a number of times through the keynote.
(5). Including a powerful example of an “un-plumbed” washing machine and the significance of familiar items for people living with Dementia.
(6). All great keynotes move an audience to action. He promoted further in-person conversation following his presentation. This led to an hour’s worth of conversations as soon as he concluded.
In the training, I also showed Justin how to be stage ready, including correct microphone use and how to deal with bright lights on stage. How to move around the stage and how to keep the audience engaged.
Today, in front of a full room at the 7th Annual Aged Care conference at the ICCS, Justin walked on stage and delivered his Keynote. He smashed it. Straight away, he was asked to speak at another upcoming event in Sydney. With massive hard work and amazing dedication, Justin did it. And I have to say, I loved every second of helping him achieve his goals. ... See MoreSee Less

35 years of presenting, speaking and media experience goes directly into the training I deliver - and I love showing people how to do it. By walking off stage the night before a training session, I share real presenting experiences the next day. By walking out of the Mix106.3 studio on a Saturday, I share real media preparation and interview experiences through the following week. In this pic we’re getting ready for a legacy and digital media interview task. Thanks to the CEOs and executives who have trusted me to do this with you so far through May. It's been a wild few weeks! ... See MoreSee Less

My view of Skyfire 2026! Massive congrats to the group of people who provided another incredible experience for well over 100,000 people on Saturday night. While all the action was lakeside, I was camped back at the Mix 106.3 Canberra studio getting Kristen and Nige’s broadcast to air along with the all-important job of managing the time, so when they lit the fuse on the first cracker, the soundtrack played in sync! What a night. What an event for Canberra! ... See MoreSee Less

At every other Symphony in the Park I’ve hosted, I’ve always managed to see some of the show out in the audience. On Sunday night, this was my only view! There were just too many people in the park watching! After hosting the mounting yard presentations all day at Thoroughbred Park and seeing Gratz Vella Racing win their highly emotional second Black Opal, I hot tailed it down to Stage 88. What a treat to see Mark Seymour out front of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. Thanks to the ACT Government 1000’s of people jammed in and enjoyed an incredible show of great Australian rock songs, arranged to the backing of the fine musicians in the CSO. Congrats to everyone for bringing both events together and providing great experiences for 1000’s of locals and visitors. ... See MoreSee Less
