9 – Canberra Cuddle Party
A fun and structured social event that creates a safe place to give and receive hugs in a friendly setting, where you can also meet new people! Once cuddles start, participants will stay in a big group or separate to cuddle one on one. You don’t have to cuddle at all, you can simply sit and join the conversation. 8 – Boomanulla Community Day
Boomanulla Oval’s re-opened for business after major restoration works. To celebrate the opening, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body is holding a Community Day at the oval. There’ll be a range of activities like face painting, a sausage sizzle, sports, followed by kick off for the Boomanulla Raiders men’s rugby league game.

7 – Army in Concert
With the grandeur of a 50 piece military band, the Royal Military College Band presents a modern take on Tchaikovsky’s most memorable themes. The band will also perform classics from the wind orchestra repertoire, including Bernstein’s ‘Symphonic Dances from West Side Story,’ Mussorgrsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition,’ and the Canberra premiere of ‘Extreme Makeover’ – Johan de Mei. All proceeds from the concert will go to Legacy Australia, who provide support to families of veterans.

4 – Red Shield Appeal
Locals are urged to dig deep as Salvos doorknockers do the rounds this weekend for their biggest annual fundraiser – the Red Shield Appeal. Organisers hope to raise at least $320,000 locally. Help raise money for the Salvation Army, so they can continue their great work in helping locals facing hardship.

2 – Reconciliation Day Eve
In the capital, on the eve of the Reconciliation Day public holiday, some of the strongest voices in the country are coming together to honour the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum. This year the event coincides with National Sorry Day, with powerhouse rapper Briggs returning to the stage along with Australian icons Yothu Yindi & The Treaty Project. They’ll be joined on the evening by Alice Skye and Emily Wurramara for what promises to be a night of power and beauty.

1 – Reconciliation in the Park
Enjoy free performances, workshops and storytelling at the Reconciliation in the Park event this Reconciliation Day. Melbourne duo, The Merindas, will be headlining, bringing a fusion of Indigenous, electro-tribal pop sounds to the stage. A line-up of local singers and dancers will also perform. Canberrans can also enjoy Indigenous art, craft and language and the opportunity to leave a message of reconciliation at the Reflection Forest.
