There will be brilliant vintage items, artwork, bric-a-brac, clothing, books, jewellery, seconds, hand-made, shoes, records, music, badges, cards, handmade paper, you name it! Come for a bargain, a swap, or an old fashioned haggle. Suitcase Rummage is not to be missed!

 

9 – Songland RSPCA major sale 

A Canberra man passionate about records and animals has decided to combine his two loves for a good cause! Songland Records in Weston Creek is holding a major sale of donated music and movies this weekend. Every cent will go towards the animals at the local RSPCA. Check out amazing and rare vinyl records, DVD’s, boxed sets, TV’s, stereo systems and more.

 

8 – Tidbinbilla Open Day

The annual Tidbinbilla Open Day is on again. The festivities will run from 10am – 3pm in a relaxed family friendly atmosphere with free entry to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve all day. It’s a fun-filled day of nature based experiences, kid’s activities, live music, displays, demonstrations and more – held in the greatest venue of all, the great outdoors! The theme this year is ‘Rediscover Tidbinbilla’ where we encourage you to explore the Reserve with renewed curiosity and a fresh perspective.

 

7 – Pedal Power Glow Ride

Light up Yerrabi Pond with an easy 5 km loop around the lake, beginning at twilight and riding into the night and under the stars. Wear your best glow-in-the-dark gear and dress up your bike with glowing colours and festive lights. There’ll be spot prizes for the brightest bikes, glow face painting and family food and entertainment, including performances by Canberra Prosperous Mountain Lion Dance and their glow-in-the-dark lions! Say goodbye to winter and welcome daylight savings at this fun family adventure ride!

 

6 – Parliament House Open Day

Celebrate 30 years of parliamentary democracy on Capital Hill with the building’s biggest Open Day yet. Experience a side of Parliament House not normally accessible to the public. Take a tour to the House of Representatives and Senate Chamber, stroll through the heart of the building, Members Hall and picnic in the beautiful courtyards. Meet with parliamentary staff and discuss how the parliament works, learn about the activities that keep the house running and its grounds in pristine condition.

 

5 – The Forage

The Forage is a showcase of street food (and other food products) by our local cafes, food trucks, wineries and breweries. The mission is to give local businesses (established and new) an opportunity to get creative and showcase and feed the community in a festival style environment. You can wander around and purchase a variety of beverages from the drink vendors – from local Wineries to Breweries to cold pressed juice, homemade lemonade, and coffee from local roasters, there is something for everyone.

 

4 – Googong RFS Open Day

The Rural Fire Service’s annual Community Open Day is a fascinating adventure for the young and the young-at-heart. If you’ve always dreamed of climbing a fire ladder, trying out the giant hose or checking your handle on the emergency radio, then pack up the kids and head for the NSW Rural Fire Service Community Open Day at Googong, The local crew from the Jerrabomberra Creek Rural Fire Brigade will be on hand at Googong with lots of free family fun. Climb the big red fire trucks or have a go with the hoses under the watchful eye of the local brigade. Try the firies emergency gear on for size and share some of the amazing stories from our local heroes. Plus, this year see the boats from Roads and Maratime Services.

 

3 – Canberra Burns Club Highland Gathering

The modern highland gathering or highland games is a day full of events and activities. The day is a mix of sporting events, music festival and something like a fete, fair and market combined. There is a range of music often including folk music and Scottish pipes and drums. See the Scottish sporting competition including the caber toss and the weight over the bar events. Dancing is also included, often Scottish or Irish folk dancing as well as highland dancing.

 

2 – Floriade

Australia’s favourite Spring festival is on! Visitors are invited to take a trip down memory lane as Floriade celebrates the best of pop culture. Along with all the activity, this weekend you can meet Dirt Girl – the gumboot wearing, planet-loving girl, Rockstar. Dirt Girl loves to sing and dance almost as much as she loves getting grubby, and this is your chance to meet her! Be it growing awesome tomatoes, helping the bees pollinate or composting, dirtgirl and her friends make eco-sustainability grubby fun for the whole family. Government House Open Day is your opportunity to ‘go beyond the gates’ and discover the house and gardens of Australia’s Vice-Regal residence. During the event, the Governor-General, Lady Cosgrove, Government House staff and volunteers from the Australiana Fund will be on hand to answer your questions and share perspectives of life at one of Australia’s most iconic residences. With free entry, and both the house and gardens available for you to explore at leisure, Government House Open Day is an ideal day out for the entire family.
